"One True Love" came about as a co-write with Phil Jaurigui. Phil owns Swing House rehearsal and recording studios in Hollywood in addition to being a musician and producer. I met Phil at SXSW several years ago, and after that Swing House became my rehearsal studio of choice while rehearsing for the album; it's 24/7 rock n roll over there. "One True Love" was written fairly quickly with Phil strumming away the simple chord patterns and the lyrics and melody came to me seamlessly and fast. A triumphant song of recognizing that finding love helps to wipe away the sorrows and struggles of every day life. I'd always envisioned this song as a top down driving down the Pacific Coast Highway summer tune. Prior to recording the album, I demoed a very rough version of the song with Phil at Swing House and have attached that never before heard version on the player here.
We tracked the album version at House Of Blues Studios in Encino with Guy Erez producing. Although this song was pushed as the second single on the album, it still remains the most popular track. KCRW's Chris Douridas took a liking to the song and played it quite a bit on KCRW this past summer, in addition to plenty of radio play across the US and internet radio. Then the idea of doing a music video came up.
Elad Offer, a well known music video director, had been working on an interactive video concept that separates individual tracks within a mix, and allows the user to control the volume or solo each instrument in the mix while manipulating the accompanying video. He put together both the traditional music video form for "One True Love" and the brand new technology based interactive video. We shot the video in one day out in Palmdale, CA near the Kill Bill church location - it was oh 110 degrees out there, we were sweating our asses off. Nelson, Elad's dog came out for the trip and of course ended up in the video. Starring: Manda Mosher, Ido Sasson, Alex Balderston, Mike Medeiros, Dustin Robinson, and Nelson the dog.
